More Than a Game: What Softball Taught Me as a Senior

By: Nicole Maradiaga

As a senior in high school, softball has been one of the most important parts of my life. It has taught me how to lead, how to be resilient, and how to stay focused under pressure. Every practice and game helped me grow, not just as an athlete, but as a person. I’ve learned to take responsibility, to support my teammates, and to never give up, even after a tough loss. These lessons will stay with me long after graduation.

Softball also gave me a second family my team. We’ve shared early morning practices, long bus rides, and moments we’ll never forget. Our bond is something truly special, built through hard work and trust. With the growing popularity of college softball and more attention from the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), I feel proud to be part of a sport that empowers girls. Softball has shaped who I am, and I’m grateful for every inning I’ve played.

As I prepare to close this chapter of my life and step into the next, I carry with me the strength, discipline, and friendships that softball has given me. The field has been more than just a place to compete—it’s been where I found my voice, built my confidence, and discovered my passion. No matter where life takes me, I will always be proud to call myself a softball player.
