President Trump pauses immigration applications
By: Milly Osegueda
On February 13, 2025, Trump suspended immigration applications for certain Latin American migrants who entered the U.S. under parole programs established during Biden’s administration. Thousands of individuals from Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua living in Miami are now uncertain about their legal status and future.
The suspension has sparked lawsuits, with advocacy groups and immigrants fighting to restore the programs. Many affected individuals fear deportation or separation from their jobs and families. In response, local organizations in Miami are stepping up to offer legal aid and shelter.
Beyond personal struggles, Miami’s economy could face challenges, as industries like construction, hospitality, and healthcare rely heavily on immigrant labor. If these workers are forced to leave, businesses may struggle, leading to economic instability in the city.
