The United states is facing the largest measles outbreak in 25 years, with over 1000confirmed cases reported across 30 states. The outbreak has been the worst in Texas, where there is more than 700 cases recorded, including two unfortunate child deaths. Thankfully for us, there has only been 1 case reported in the state of Florida since then.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include cough, red eyes, high fever, runny nose, and a rash that spreads across the body.
This outbreak is largely due to fewer people getting vaccinated, as misinformation has led to people having doubts on getting the vaccination. The MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, it is 97% effective, yet people are still doubting it, increasing the risks of spreading this fatal disease.
Doctors and health experts are asking people to get vaccinated to prevent further spread of this disease. To stay safe, individuals should immediately get vaccinated, avoid being in contact with sick people , and seek medical help if you start getting any of the listed symptoms. Measles is a serious matter, but we can stop it from spreading by taking action and getting vaccinated.
