The Razorbill: A Futuristic Bird of Air and Sea
By: Abigail Contreras
The razorbill is a really unique seabird that stands out from many others, especially because of its cool “new” appearance. It has a sleek black body with a white belly, and its thick, their bright yellow mouth ,black beak has a vibrant white stripe running across it. This makes it look a bit futuristic compared to other birds , many people say their appearance look like penguins. The beak isn’t just fashionable it’s also really powerful and perfect for holding onto fish, which is what it mostly eats.
Razorbills live in cold, rocky regions near the ocean, mainly in the North Atlantic. They make their nests on cliffs or between rocks, where it’s safer from predators. During winter, they don’t stay put, they travel far out to sea, floating on the waves and diving deep in search of food.
What really makes the razorbill different from other birds, however, is the fact that it’s designed as a mix between a penguin and a puffin. It can fly through the air with speed but also dives underwater using its wings as flippers. This mix of air and water skills makes the razorbill a pretty cool and interesting bird
