Former City of Miami Springs Tee-Ball Coach Charged with Child Pornography and Drug Possession

A former tee-ball coach for the City of Miami Springs is facing multiple charges related to child pornography and drug possession following a cyber tip that led to his arrest, officials confirmed Friday.
Adrian Cotera, 37, who previously coached children aged 5 and under, was taken into custody after an investigation linked his cellphone and internet activity to child sexual abuse material. The investigation was launched after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted local authorities to suspicious online behavior.
According to the Miami Springs Police Department, detectives traced the activity to Cotera’s home, where they uncovered 20 videos showing children, some as young as 10, involved in explicit acts.
Officers placed Cotera under surveillance before stopping him in his vehicle, where they discovered a firearm and 21.5 grams of suspected cocaine inside a bag. The drugs have been submitted to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office crime lab for testing.
“This individual had no prior criminal record,” said Police Chief Matthew Castillo. “We conduct background checks on all coaches, but if something doesn’t seem right, report it to us, your league president, or another coach so it can be investigated.”
Cotera has been charged with 20 counts of promoting sexual performance by a child, as well as possession of a controlled substance while armed. Authorities said he has confessed to the charges, and the case remains under investigation.
He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $40,000 bond.
