Major gaming tournament: Genesis 5

One of the largest gaming tournaments ever will be held in Downtown Oakland in the Oakland Convention Center. The main events for this convention is the Super Smash Bros. Series, which the second installment, Super Smash Bros. Melee, having over 1,000 entrants alone. The finals for the Super Smash Bros. Tournaments will help in the Paramount Theatre near the convention center.

This year, the tournament organizers decided to include a few minor games so other people could participate. Some of these minor events have an included $1,000 prize pot.

All the events this year are as follows:

  • Super Smash Bros. 64  Singles – $1,210 Prize Pot
  • Super Smash Bros. 64  Doubles – $600 Prize Pot
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee  Singles – $10,000+ Prize Pot
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee  Doubles – $5,000+ Prize Pot
  • Super Smash Bros. Wii U Singles – $6,800 Prize Pot
  • Super Smash Bros. Wii U Doubles – $2,800 Prize Pot
  • Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – $1,000 Prize Pot
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition – $1,000 Prize Pot
  • Rivals of Aether  Singles
  • Rivals of Aether  Doubles
  • DDR Extreme
  • Splatoon 2
  • Pokken Tournament DX

This event will be held on January 19 to January 21.

The cost for a spectator pass is $50 for a Friday/Saturday pass or $30 for a 1-day pass. The cost to view the finals in the Paramount Theatre is $20 for a Balcony & Rear seat and $40 for a Front seat.

This tournament will be largest in its own series, with a larger convention and more events than the previous Genesis tournaments.
