The 305’s New Heart: Inter Miami Finally Comes Home

By: Kayla Riveron

After years of being based in Fort Lauderdale, Inter Miami has finally moved into its permanent home: Nu Stadium. The venue officially opened its doors on April 4, 2026, with an inaugural match against Austin FC. Located adjacent to Miami International Airport within the expansive Miami Freedom Park, the $1 billion stadium accommodates approximately 26,700 fans. It features a stunning 360-degree open-air concourse that offers panoramic views of the downtown skyline.

The stadium is more than just a pitch; it serves as the centerpiece of a massive 131-acre district. This area includes the 58-acre Jorge Mas Canosa Park, a vibrant collection of new retail shops, and a tech-forward fan experience featuring biometric entry. While it is exciting to finally have the team playing in the heart of Miami, the location has undeniably complicated airport traffic on match nights. Currently, the surrounding area has been transformed into a sprawling pink-and-black construction zone as crews finalize the neighboring hotels and office spaces.

Even for those who aren’t die-hard soccer fans, the stadium has quickly become the premier spot for a sunset photo, perfect for the “grid” without the hour-long trek north. While securing an Uber after a match will likely be a logistical nightmare, seeing Messi play without leaving Miami-Dade County makes the airport traffic a small price to pay. Just don’t expect a detailed explanation of the offside rule once we’re in the stands.
