Culinary Class: More Than Just Cooking

I think one of the many reasons so many students want to take culinary class is because it is a relaxed environment where you can learn basic cooking skills while having fun. Our teacher, Ms. Mann, makes the class truly enjoyable. She isn’t the type of cooking teacher who constantly pressures you to make a perfect dish, which gives students a sense of independence. For example, she lets us work in groups so we can cook alongside our friends, making the experience much more fun. Most of the time, she even gives us “free days,” meaning students can cook whatever they want, which I honestly prefer.

The class also allows you to express your creativity. We get to make different types of desserts, learn various decoration techniques, and discover how to plate food to make it look beautiful. It is also a great space to experiment with different flavor combinations, allowing us to see which seasonings pair best with specific dishes. Additionally, students learn how to measure ingredients correctly. Even when mistakes happen, we learn how to fix the problem and improve for the next time. The class teaches us how to use kitchen tools correctly, prepare food safely, and practice essential teamwork skills while working in a group.

Furthermore, there are different levels of culinary classes available if you want to take the subject more seriously. Whether you want to become a chef, work as a caterer, find employment in a restaurant, or even start your own business, the school offers advanced classes to support those goals. The school even participates in culinary competitions against other schools. Overall, culinary arts is a fantastic class where students can interact, practice teamwork, and learn basic life skills, whether they just want a useful hobby or plan to pursue culinary arts in college.
