The Hallway Hero: Why Ms. Fumero is the Real MVP

By: Kayla Riveron

Part 1: The Vibe

So, we all know that the real MVP of our school day isn’t the super-fast Wi-Fi (when it works) or the extra credit we’re all begging for, it’s the smell of buttered, toasted bread and fresh espresso wafting through the halls. I’m talking about Ms. Fumero and her iconic tostadas and café con leche. Honestly, it’s more than just a mid-morning snack; it’s a whole experience.

You know that feeling when you’re running on three hours of sleep, your backpack weighs forty pounds, and you have a math test next period that you’re 90% sure you’re going to fail? That little window of time to grab a café con leche feels like a literal hug for your brain. It creates this tiny, beautiful community in the hallway where we all just bond over being collectively exhausted. For a few minutes, we’re not just students trying to survive junior year, we’re just people who really, really need some caffeine and a warm piece of bread to keep going.

I sat down with the legend herself to get the tea (or, well, the coffee) on what it’s like being our primary fuel source. When I asked her how it felt to know she’s basically fueling our best school memories, Ms. Fumero laughed and described the morning rush as “chaotic and off the chain.” As she put it, “You can never stop being a hungry student; they are very persistent!”
