As one of the most talked-about and popular films of 2026, the horror movie Obsession has sparked a massive wave of positive reviews. Released on May 15, 2026, the R-rated film has already earned a stellar 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an impressive 8.2 rating on IMDb. Produced on a modest budget of just under one million USD, the film has defied expectations, with many movie critics suggesting it may rank among the best psychological horror films ever created. The exceptional main cast includes Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, and Megan Lawless, all of whom deliver standout performances.
The plot primarily centers on a meek young man named Bear, who is deeply in love with his close friend, Nikki. Hoping to build up the courage to ask her out, Bear invites Nikki to a bar, but ultimately fails to confess his feelings. Before their night out, however, he visits a novelty shop and purchases a “One Wish Willow”—a mysterious stick that supposedly grants the user a single wish once snapped. After the evening takes a disappointing turn, a desperate Bear uses the stick to wish that Nikki would fall unconditionally in love with him.
Almost immediately, a drastic change occurs in Nikki, and she becomes completely devoted to him. However, her dependency quickly spirals into a waking nightmare. The psychological toll on Nikki worsens by the day, twisting her mind and transforming her behavior into something monstrous.
Obsession is a brilliantly orchestrated psychological horror film that captures the terrifying reality of unbridled obsession. The movie deserves every bit of its critical acclaim, utilizing a masterpiece of a script to tell a horrible tragedy born entirely from one person’s selfish actions.
