When it comes to health, we know how important it is to eat well and stay active, but there are also other things you could do that offer a big payoff to your well-being. Try incorporating a few of these following activities into your everyday routine to help from reduced stress levels, lower blood pressure, lesser risk on some diseases and more.

 1. Knitting

Repetitive activity that put your hands to work can get you out of your head and help you cut your stress levels. Plus, a 2013 survey of 3,500 people who love to knit showed that, the more people knitted, the better brain function they had.

 2. Cooking

It should not come as a surprise that homemade meals are much healthier than the ones served at restaurants. According to a 2014 study, people who regularly eat at home consume about 130 fewer calories than those who don’t. And teaching children how to cook healthy meals can help curb obesity.

3. Playing with your pet

Caring for a pet has been shown to decrease blood pressure, cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, and reduce feelings of loneliness, according to the CDC.  Dog owners might even experience added benefits since walking your dog helps you exercise and can prevent weight gain. According to a 2011 study of 2,000 adults, people who regularly walked their dogs were more physically active and less likely to be obese than those he did not.

 4. Coloring

As with knitting, coloring, painting, and drawing can have powerful mental health benefits. Studies have shown that art therapy helps you relax and ease stress and anxiety.

 5. Traveling

Let this be the push you need to get your head off work and book that trip you’ve been dreaming of going to. According to a 2010 study in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, engaging in activities such as time off and travel can lower blood pressure and stress hormones.

So don’t hold back and apply these few thing to your everyday routines for a healthier and happier life.
