The importance of drinking water

By: Justin Martinez

Water is one, if not the most important, substance your body needs to function properly.  The three most needed substances the human body needs for survival are food, oxygen, and most importantly, water. It has been scientifically proven that people who drink more water tend to live happier, healthier lives. Your body is composed of 80% water, it is extremely beneficial to drink at least three liters of it a day.

According to uchealth.org, “Water aids in constipation and other abdominal issues, especially those suffering from IBS. Water helps to move the digestive process along and through the system.”  It also contributes towards helping your digestive system digest food properly. Drinking water tends to make your blood slightly thinner making it easier for blood to flow out throughout your body. It helps with clearing out acne, help with weight loss, and much more.

Water is always released through sweating, breathing, digestion, and many other ways as well. Which is why it is extremely important to always replenish and drink lots of water throughout the day. A person can go 3-4 weeks without eating (which could lead to health issues, and no one recommends this) but can only go 2-3 days without water.

Therefore, drinking plenty of water is a habit we must all acquire at an early age, specifically if we are enjoying activities in the sun. Water is not only beneficial but necessary in our daily routine to live a long healthy life.
