Why laughter makes us feel better

By: Breanna Solano

You are having a difficult day and suddenly you catch yourself laughing, and you start to feel your mood changing.  This is the power of laughter. Laughter is a pleasant emotion, making us feel good and releasing chemicals into our brain, which could improve our health. Laughter chemically triggers the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. The oxygen intake stimulates body circulation and decreases cortisol levels. This causes your stress response to cool down your stress response, which decreases a person’s heart rate and blood pressure. The body then relieves physical tension, which leaves your muscles relaxed for at least 45 minutes after. Laughter even generates long term benefits like improving one’s immune system. This outcome is that negative thoughts manifest into reactions that affect the body by bringing more stress into a person’s system and decreasing immunity. On the contrary, positive thoughts release neuropeptides that help fight stress and even more-serious illnesses.

Jair Gutierrez says – ‘’Says that you must laugh every day, a day without laughter is a day wasted ‘.’

Crystal Cordero – ‘’feels you just must laugh to let it out, a good laugh can help any problem ‘’

Laughter does not only impact us physically, but as well as mentally. The act of laughing keeps a positive view through tricky situations /challenging times Which can help with depressive thoughts and anxiety, since those emotions are felt in that moment. Laughter allows you to see situations in a more realistic and less threatening tone. At the end, laughter really is the best medicine.
