Why are school mascots so important?

By: Lorena Hernandez

School mascots provide a common label for all students, alumni, and faculty. They creates a sense of belonging. Not only that but they’re also what the schools sports are named after. For example, hawks football team or hawks soccer team. School mascots draw the students and fans attention at games and peprallys. Chanel say, “As soon as Hank and Holly come out during pep rally she gets excited.” School mascots are crucial in creating identity and entertainment for schools. For example, the Nebraska Cornhuskers rally behind Herbie Husker is a farmer who wears a red cowboy hat, leather gloves, blue jeans, and work boots, selected for Nebraska’s rich history in agriculture.
