Rectangular iceberg amazes scientists

By: Zoe Cardona

On October 16, 2018, NASA spotted something very unusual, a rectangle iceberg. It was during a routine flyover that this extraordinary iceberg was seen. There are some icebergs that have relatively straight edges, but this iceberg had two corners with almost perfect 90 degree angles and are really interesting to look at. Scientists are wondering whether climate change has something to do with these perfect rectangles being formed. Jan Lieser said “the straight lines are due to the structure of the snow crystals, and how they break apart and react to stresses.” They are worried that the worlds sea ice is going to melt completely due to climate change.
