Tis’ the season of baseball! With the new school year, comes a new year of long-awaited athletic games. The excitement of the football games, the swim team having their first team in seven years, and the rise of the girls volleyball team, and last but surely not least, the Hawks baseball team, a favorite at Miami Springs Senior High. We interviewed senior Orlando Borroto, team superstar and first basemen, who is anticipating to go undefeated the entire season. “Fanshawe is like a mentor to us,” he responded when we asked him to describe the relationship between the team and coach David Fanshawe, “it’s more of a friendship than a player-coach relationship.” With last year being an amazing season, it was a very shocking and upsetting one-point loss at Districts when they faced off rival school Barbara Goleman Senior High. However, Borroto is positive that this year will for sure be one for the books. “We have a stronger core and better chemistry this year,” he responded when asked how the team will be different this year, “We are excited to train the class of 2019. “However, the baseball team not only works hard on the field, but surely makes an impact in the community through many outlets. One of them is right around the corner. “We’re eager to start assisting the Miami Springs Optimist Club with the sale of their Christman trees,” said Borroto. When wrapping up, we questioned Borroto, along with teammates Carson Skelton (12) and Steven Torres (12), if they were hoping to win Districts this year. “We can 100% assure that we WILL win Districts this year.” I think that the baseball team can all agree that this season will surely be one to remember.
