MSSH’s first swim meet in seven years

By: Andres P. Garcia

On Monday, September 25, 2017 was the first swim meet in seven years for Miami Springs Hawks. The long awaited meet was interrupted by Hurricane Irma and then by the two week cleanup aftermath, which not only caused many Miami-Dade County pools to close but to start a massive cleanup of stray branches and garbage that floated on decks, and in some cases, repairs of direct damage to pools. The meet took place in Palm Springs North (PSN) at 3:00 p.m. against Barbara Goleman. The competition began with the Women’s 200 yard Medley Relay followed by the Men’s, all three relay teams (2 for the men and 1 for the women) finally getting their first taste of competition. MSSH swimmers took the spot light in several races taking first, second, and third place; depriving Goleman of huge amounts of points. The final results of the meet are still debatable. In the end, the meet provided much needed practice, and Hawks feel ready to face off against Hialeah and Hialeah Gardens.
