Carmelo Anthony traded to OKC (NBA)
Carmelo Anthony, who previously played for the New York Knicks, was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday morning. Anthony was tired of the Knicks organization and had been asking for a trade the whole summer. Guess what? He was granted what he asked for, good sign! The Knicks organization looked over and over, had phone calls with various other teams, and they searched for a great compensation in return for Carmelo. Sadly, they did not get much for ‘Melo (Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott, and a second-round pick).
However, on the other side, OKC got 2 of the top 30 players in the league for basically nothing. Earlier in the summer, the Thunder were anxious for a superstar and they contacted the Indiana Pacers for a possible trade to receive Paul George. Successfully, the Thunder received Paul George and traded Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.
Now with the most recent trade, the Oklahoma City Thunder get back in the ranks as one of the best teams in the league and one of the best-possible looking offensive teams. The trio of Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, and Paul George will be one of the best “Big Three” in the league. The Thunder’s goal now is to defeat former Thunder player, Kevin Durant, and the Warriors for revenge and a shot at the title to be NBA Champions. The team that benefitted out of this trade was the Thunder because many overlooked their team last season and now they are seen as one of the best teams after acquiring 2 superstars.
On the other hand, the Knicks aren’t improving, they keep losing talent and it seems as if their team would be affected every year and don’t really show signs of improvement as a team. This upcoming season will be very entertaining and competitive for the Warriors, now that there are much more teams acquiring superstars, besides the Thunder. Earlier this year, Carmelo Anthony showed lack of interest in the Knicks and more interest in joining a championship caliber team. Now that his wish was granted, Anthony and the Thunder have to demonstrate indications of enhancement.
Overall, the Warriors have to watch out for Durant’s former team, as they improve chemistry and develop/establish a firm standing team. There will be 2 players playing their former teams on the opening night of the upcoming NBA season; Kyrie Irving and the Celtics vs. Lebron James and the Cavaliers; and Carmelo Anthony and the Thunder vs. Kristaps Porzingis and the Knicks. It’s highly likely these will be the most viewed and rated games in the first game of the season, as they display a rivalry and an action-packed game.
