Miami Springs will always remember Mr. Enrique Diaz

The news of our beloved chemistry teacher’s passing came as a great shock, not only to faculty and staff, but to his students as well. Mr. Enrique Diaz left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. The idea that someone can be here one day and gone the next, it’s quite shocking considering that he was merely 56 years old.  At first, most of us were in denial, refusing to believe reality, that someone so positive, so dear to our hearts, with such a great personality, was no longer with us.  It is sad to say, but we only have memories that will live forever in our hearts.

I do not know of anyone who was more enthusiastic about teaching than he was.  It is not to say that our teachers do not love their profession, but Mr. Diaz had a way of making science enjoyable and engaging for all students.  His knowledge of the subject and his love of teaching were uplifting, especially for those of us who were not chemistry fans. Looking back, I remember feeling confused, and he made it a point to sit in the empty chair next to me and explain the topic all over again with the utmost patience and equanimity, which showed that he was one of the most noble and authentic people I’d come to know.

He would always offer advice to anyone who seemed to need it, and there were words of wisdom behind his teachings. After his death, I realized how many people we take for granted. His death opened up my eyes and allowed me to see what really matters in life…family. Hearing the news of his death really touched my heart. The students he taught will remember him, not only as a great professor, but as outstanding human being that contributed to their personal growth.

People say time heals all wounds, and it is true in this incident and many other cases.  It is time to face reality, accept the truth, and move on with our lives. We will forever be grateful and will always remember the joy he brought to our lives. May he rest in peace.
