More Than a Game: Why the World Cup Unites Us All

By: Raymer Montes De Oca

The upcoming FIFA World Cup is exciting because it feels like the entire world stops to watch. FIFA, or the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, manages this global tournament, which is about far more than just soccer on television. It brings people together across borders, uniting fans who cheer for the same matches at the same time.  What excites me most is seeing the dedication of the players as they represent their nations. The World Cup showcases teamwork, effort, and pride in a way that is easy for everyone to understand. Whether fans are celebrating a goal or sharing a moment of disappointment, the collective experience makes the tournament meaningful. You don’t need to be a soccer expert to enjoy the game; that universal appeal is exactly why the World Cup feels so special.

This upcoming tournament will be historic as it spans across 16 cities in three different countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Fans will gather in iconic venues ranging from the high-altitude Estadio Azteca in Mexico City to the vibrant BC Place in Vancouver and BMO Field in Toronto. In the United States, the matches will be spread from coast to coast, including Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Dallas, Atlanta, Kansas City, Houston, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, and Boston. With the final match set to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026, these cities are ready to welcome the world for a month of unforgettable soccer.
