Hello Week 2023

By: Maria Caballero

Hello Miami Springs Senior High! As the clock hit noon, on every day of the week from the 18th to the 22nd, an activity was offered in the lobby of the school to commemorate the ‘Start with Hello Week’ and ‘No Place for Hate’ initiatives from MDCPS.

On Monday, ‘Start with Hello Week’ kicked off the lunch break by having our volunteers distribute stickers that displayed a name tag, incentivizing strangers to interact. Some dialogue to start the week never disappoints.

Tuesday, a scavenger hunt helped start conversation and exchanges among students. The challenge was to search for a person that shared some similar characteristics with you. That is such a fun-ice breaker!

Wednesday, MSSH had a blast right before the bell rang as we held a photoshoot with students and faculty that wore the ‘Start with Hello Week’ and ‘No Place for Hate’ colors, green and yellow. After, the students engaged in reading the ‘No Place for Hate’ pledge.

Thursday the Hawks showed appreciation by dedicating a sticky note to a trusted adult! Gratitude is an essential practice.

An acrostic poem was the surprise for the long-awaited Friday. Collectively writing a poem spelling out the word ‘Respect’ was surely an innovative way to spark up a chat. A wholesome end to a very social week. I am sure all the Golden Hawks of Miami Springs know each other much better now! Let’s keep on building that spirit year-round. Thank you, MDCPS for bring us ‘Start with Hello Week’ and ‘No Place for Hate’!
