Aventura, the first major bachata band to come from the Dominican diaspora rather than the island itself, is perhaps the most well-known name in bachata music worldwide. The Bronx-based group’s elective mix of bachata, US R&B, and other non-Dominican styles has made them very popular with young Latino audiences in the United States, Europe, and Latin America. The band Aventura has had a limited impact on the sound of bachata, despite their international success. Traditional bachata listeners have not been impressed. Attempts by other young bachata players to replicate Aventura’s hybrid style have so far been unsuccessful.
