Blackpink is a widely known K-pop girl group from YG Entertainment that has been on the charts since their first hit ‘Bombayah’. The four girls made their debut in 2016 and have been favorites ever since. The group is one of a small group of entertainers who did not stick to the standards of the cute K-pop girl group and instead released empowering songs, amazing choreography, and dark and sexy concepts which make them irresistible. Their latest album, ‘Square Up’ topped the Billboard charts and their music videos in correlation with the album have reached over 300 million views.
Fans have been anxiously waiting to see which member would be releasing her first single. However, a little over a week ago, it was officially announced that Jennie would be the first to have her single début. As Blinks waited, knowing Jennie would come out with an amazing song, it was also announced that her song would be released on November 12th which added to the anticipation. On November 12, 2018, Jennie’s single ‘Solo’ was released, and it broke records gaining millions of views in just a few hours. Jennie’s solo has officially been called an all kill as she has surpassed all charts and continues to gain recognition for her song. As of now her music video has received 40 million views in just 3 days. The music video is filled with aesthetics that only Jennie herself could pull off consisting of her strong presence, amazing dancing, and gorgeous vocals.
The song is about a girl who is in a one-sided relationship, where the girl is very much more interest in the boy. After realizing her worth, she decides it is best if that she take care of herself and decides she is powerful all on her own. With lyrics like ‘I ain’t got no time for the troubles in your eyes’ and ‘This time I’m only lookin’ at me, myself and I’, it is refreshing to hear that she has finally realized she is better off on her own and no longer is willing to deal with the problems. Jennie’s deep and smoothing vocals fit perfectly making the lyrics more powerful. All we can expect now is the same intensity from the other members.
