Boxes: Goo Goo Dolls’ new album

By: Kassity Murphy

There are few albums that are crafted so perfectly that each song will have you dancing or singing to the lyrics and beat. The way they can move you and send chills down your spine is a clear sign that the album is one of the best.

Released on May 16th, 2016, The Goo Goo Dolls’ new album, Boxes, made its debut and is definitely that kind of album that will have you addicted. John Rzeznik’s voice conveys the fondness each song holds and easily paints the scenes that he describes with heartfelt words.

From Over and Over to Long Way Home, Rzeznik’s voice is beautiful and captivating. The album also includes two songs from the band’s other vocalist, Robby Takac, singing to upbeat tunes and melodies with lyrics of acceptance of a love lost.

The album is incredible and every song will find a place in each listener’s heart that will leave them smiling or with a sense of peace. The album is also the first in The Goo Goo Dolls’ history to have more than one person write the songs: John Rzeznik, Robby Takac, Gregg Wattenberg, Derek Fuhrmann and Drew Pearson.

Most of the songs were written by the lead singer-guitarist John Rzeznik – who has said the album is very personal, which gives the album a greater appeal and love for the listeners to be able to connect with each song and the meanings behind them – but this time he needed the extra influence instead of just relying on himself to create the songs.

It worked out for the best as the album gives a fresh feel, yet a familiar one, to The Goo Goo Dolls.

The Goo Goo Dolls will be promoting their new album with a tour this spring and will be coming to Tampa, Florida March 11, 2017 for the Busch Gardens Food & Wine Festival.
