Anchors under the big top returned victorious

This year’s Anchor club convention included dozens of schools statewide all partaking in friendly competitions and ice-breakers along with working together on the state project, collecting books for schools in Africa. Part of this convention was the election of officers to the state board comprised of members of the Anchor club. After speeches were made by the candidates and other activities completed, the winners were announced and our very own Anchor President Gabriela Ruiz won the position of treasurer, ceremoniously taking the place of Christian Duran also from Miami Spring Senior High. Christian also earning the title of Anchor Member of the year.
Among the other awards earned were the first place positions in Community Service, the accumulation of service hours completed within the year and Pick Me Ups, small tokens of gratitude for those who work hard in the community such as the Friday the club brought baked goods to the staff that work the cafeteria. As well as Brain Health, where anchor members promote brain safety among the youth of the community through interactive puppet shows and bicycle helmet fitting, and a lip sync competition against the other schools where fun costumes and creative choreography. Second place was awarded to the club for Patriotism, for the participation in the ceremonial burning and retiring of worn out United States flags on Veteran’s Day, third for Spirit and Outstanding Club of the Year. All these awards were earned for the category of 41 members and over but Miami Springs also won Anchor Club of the Year overall!
