Video Game: Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
By: Cameron Snyder
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is a first person, free running video game that serves as a prequel to the original Mirror’s Edge. You play as Faith Connors as you explore the futuristic city called Glass. As you travel across the city, you use many parkour styles and items such as zip lines, pipes, ledges and more. Unlike the first game’s linear gameplay, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is completely open world, allowing endless possibilities for one mission. This game also allows you to place markers on the map activating Faith’s runner vision showing possible ways to get to the place you marked on the map. In addition to the main story, there will be many side activities you can do such as races, time trials, and puzzles. According to Sara Jansson, the senior producer of the game, the combat system was changed so that the combat and fighting featured will be an extension to the game’s movement instead of a separated set. This allowed more flow in the transition from parkour to fighting and back to parkour. The use of guns has been completely taken out for the player having Faith rely on her hand to hand combat and parkour to outmaneuver and outrun the enemies of the game. Finally, as promised, there will be no loading screen in the world allowing travel without having the delay of loading the area.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is scheduled to release on May 24, 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
