Tom Clancy’s The Division is an upcoming open world third-person shooter video game. The Division is scheduled to release on March 8, 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows. The game is being developed and published by Ubisoft, with assistance from Red Storm Entertainment.

The Division takes place in the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic that spread on Black Friday by the deliberate infection of dollar bills. The virus spreads from New York City and spreads throughout the United States. Basic public services fail and the country descends into chaos due to the lack of access to food or water. The United States Government collapses in five days.

The player is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), or “The Division” for short, a secret stay-behind force of independent government agents. Agents of the SHD are trained to operate without government support. The SHD was created in response to the threat of the outbreak, and are authorized by the President to prevent the complete collapse of American society and peace New York City back together. As the player explores New York City they will encounter the remnants of the New York Police Department, Fire Department, and emergency responders, and the New York National Guard who are all now known as the Joint Task Force (JTF) who will aid the player. Escaped prisoners from Rikers Island, bandits known as the Rioters, former firefighters known as The Cleaners who are obsessed with eradicating the virus, and the Last Man Battalion who are a rogue military unit who are using lethal methods to contain the outbreak will all pose a serious threat to the SHD. The SHD will eventually uncover a worldwide conspiracy.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is scheduled to release on March 8, 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows.
