The Amanda Blackburn Case

By: Natalie Villar

Amanda Blackburn was shot during a home robbery on November 10, 2015, in her Indianapolis residence. Her husband pastor Davey Blackburn discovered the dead body of his wife that same morning after returning home from the gym. There are three men who are now in police custody, Larry Taylor, 18 ; Jalen Watson, 21; and Diano Gordon, 24. Taylor and Watson are being held on murder charges by the police, while Gordon is in custody on a parole violation. Sources say, it was Taylor who shot Amanda. The three men referred to themselves as, “The Kill Gang”. The trio have been linked by detectives to previous rapes and a robbery at the Westlake apartments, where they were living until early November. According to detectives, the men entered the Blackburn home, which was unlocked at the time. Amanda was with her one year old son who was luckily left unharmed. Sources say two of the men left with Amanda’s ATM card and retrieved money, while Taylor allegedly raped and shot Amanda. ATM receipts were found in the suspects’ car, linking them to Amanda. A gun was also found in the car. Her husband stated, “Though everything inside of me wants to hate, be angry, and slip into despair, I choose the route of forgiveness, grace and hope. If there is one thing I’ve learned from Amanda in the 10 years we were together, it’s this: ‘Choosing to let my emotions drive my decisions is recipe for a hopeless and fruitless life’. Today I am deciding to love, not hate. Today I am deciding to extend forgiveness, not bitterness. Today I am deciding to hope, not despair. By Jesus’ power at work within us, the best is STILL yet to come. Even when I don’t see it, I believe it to be true.”
