The future of TikTok: Will it be banned?

The Business of Fashion

TikTok has been around for nearly a decade and is one of the most popular social media platforms, with over 2 billion users.  However, over the years, there has been a growing concern over privacy which led the U.S. government no option but to place a ban on the popular app. on January 18, 2025.  The concern is that TikTok, which  is owned and operated by a Chinese company, could be collecting and stealing data putting our security at risk. The site was quickly restored by President Trump, a day later.

Many influencers have made a living from the popular platform.  If banned,  millions of content creators may lose their source of income, small business may struggle due to lack of advertisement. TikTok has taken steps to address concerns in the U.S. market.  As per President Trump, TikTok will be operational for 90 days, but the future past said time is still unsure.
