No Place for Hate: Homeless Awareness Day

On November 9th, we held our third and last ‘No Place for Hate’ activity during lunch at MSSH. Our goal was to bring awareness to homelessness in our country and local community as well as to promote kindness amongst the students toward homeless individuals. Prior to the lunchtime exhibition, the No Place for Hate Committee constructed a board to reflect statistics on homelessness in the United States.

During lunch, our counselors, activities director, and a group of students set up a table with the newly designed cardboard display. The theme for this year’s Homeless Awareness Day activity was ‘Bee Kind’. Many students passed by, and were able to read these statistics, learning about the issue at hand. Others had the opportunity to write countless messages of support and kindness for all the people going through this unfortunate situation.

Additionally, the projection of the board during lunch helped advertise a month-long food drive taking place in the school. Homeroom teachers are collecting preserved and canned goods to later be distributed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. All of this was done with the purpose to make an adverse circumstance into a better experience for all and to continue promoting our school as a No Place for Hate school.
