The water is not so pure in Flint, Michigan

After months of concern, people are finally starting to take a stand against the toxic water crisis in Flint, Michigan. It began two years ago when city and state officials decided to switch their water supply in order to save money. About 40% of the residents in Flint, Michigan are way below the poverty line which alerted the government to make a drastic change in the community. Back in August 2015, researchers from Virginia Tech University found that not only is there iron in the water supply, but there’s also lead. Governor, Rick Snyder kept avoiding this situation even when the citizens of Flint brought the situation to him.  Now President Obama has declared a federal emergency to the crisis in Flint. He gave the city $5 million worth of federal aid from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which should cover 75% of all costs that will aim in clean water supply. Thanks to Obama’s actions, celebrities and organizations, along with concerned citizens, have aided in the efforts.
