With Jennings back as GM, Marlins are looking for a new manager

Dan Jennings, the Marlins’ 2015 manager, is back in his original role of General Manager, and so begins the search for yet another manager. In the past six years, the Marlins have had five managers with only Mike Redmond staying for more than one year.

Atop the list are managers Don Mattingly of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Larry Bowa who last managed back in 2004 with the Philadelphia Phillies.   Mattingly, who is likely the biggest name on the Marlins’ radar, has a record of 446-363 in five years with the Dodgers. In those five years, LA has not had a losing season.

Bowa, who hasn’t managed a big league team since 2004, is second in line for the managerial position.  In 2001, Bowa received the National League Manager of the Year after carrying the Phillies to an 86-76 record. That was after a disappointing 2000 season, with the record being 65-97.   Bowa went 337-308 in his tenure with Philadelphia.

Other managerial candidates include Manny Acta, Bo Porter and Phil Nevin. Nevin, who is the only candidate without big league managerial experience is considered a rising managerial star in the Minor League managing ranks.
