To thread or not thread

By: Noelia Del Corral

The two most popular methods of shaping eyebrows around the world are threading and waxing. Threading involves using a piece of cotton thread wrapped around the fingers that makes a loop. Then the thread is rolled over the patch of hair you want to remove. The loop catches the hair, and removes it. Waxing involves applying wax in the area to be cleaned, in the direction of the hair growth, and then pressing a strip of cloth or paper to pull the hair off. I personally prefer threading because of all methods that there are of shaping eyebrows, threading gives the most control, shaping the brows identically on both sides and exactly the way you need it.

It does not have any side effects, because there isn’t any external application of any substance. The only reaction you can really get is some slight red bumps, which go away after a few hours. But the threading has to be done correctly and performed by an expert. If someone that doesn’t know what they’re doing it can be painful and the eyebrow shape will be ruined. But I believe that if you find a good place with professionals to thread your eyebrows you would be doing yourself a favor because there are no chemicals involved, it’s a great choice for people with sensitive skin, it works faster, it lasts longer and it is a better overall value. If you’re wondering if eyebrow threading hurts: It’s as painful as plucking but it’s much faster so you’ll spend less time feeling it. It takes about 1-2 sessions to get used to threading and once you do, you’ll never want to go back to waxing again!
